She was born in Russsia, was moved to orphanage, adopted by an american single mom, moved to America, and excelled in Wheelchair sports while growing up. Having an opportunity to not only participate in Olympics but wining a medal tells a story of an individual who had an extraordinary life. I am truly inspired after reading her story. Sheer perseverance, support of family and a country that provides opportunities and facilities to it's citizen is what she had. 'Will' alone was not enough.
Being Indian, I can't imagine a paraplegic woman being self sufficient, working and making a living on her own. Participating in a sport is almost impossible. How I wish that the opportunity she got was available to folks all around the world... That is a dream, which I do not know if it will be fulfilled in my lifetime.
